EDS Monitoring system for transformers and substation equipment - I.S.A. - Altanova group
The EDS system is designed for continuous monitoring of the condition of substation equipment. The transition from periodic monitoring of equipment condition to continuous monitoring can significantly increase the reliability of the equipment and the power system as a whole. The EDS system allows you to monitor the status of substation equipment in real time with the ability to display all information on one or more consoles. Also, information can be collected from the equipment of several substations and integrated into one system.
The system monitors the following parameters
Power transformers
transformer currents and voltages
permissible systematic and emergency overloads
transformer operating time
temperature of the upper and lower layers of oil, environment, tank, switching device and thermal aging assessment
cooling system
dissolved gases (up to 8 gases) and moisture content (H2O) in oil
condition of the inputs (capacitance, dielectric loss tangent, partial discharges)
position and condition of on-load tap-changer
Current transformers
SF6 gas temperature
SF6 gas pressure and its change
Voltage transformers
secondary voltage
High voltage circuit breakers
timing characteristics of auxiliary contacts
auxiliary contact bounce time
Joule integral (I2t)
ON/OFF electromagnet current curves
drive operating time
auxiliary supply voltage
SF6 gas – temperature, pressure and its change
surge arrester
third harmonic current
current (actual value)
total current
digit counter

timing characteristics of circuit breaker auxiliary contacts
Joule integral (I2t)
ON/OFF electromagnet current curves
auxiliary supply voltage
The system consists of three main modules
Main module – collects all information from peripheral modules, calculates parameters and provides information to the operator.
Peripheral modules – located next to the controlled equipment. They collect information from sensors and auxiliary modules and transmit it to the main module. They can perform the function of a main module if only one peripheral module is installed.
Sensors – carry out measurement of parameters.
EDS software is a web application that allows the operator to monitor and analyze the condition of equipment. The software can be accessed from any PC on the network. Authorized personnel can receive data directly from their workplace. If the settings for the monitored parameters are exceeded, the system issues an alarm message to the dispatcher's control panel. All information and alarm messages are stored in a database.
