PHG 80 TD/PD Cable testing and diagnostic system - BAUR

System for testing 6-35 kV cables with cross-linked polyethylene insulation with variable frequency voltage 0.1 Hz (VLF) with the ability to measure dielectric loss tangent (TD) and partial discharges (PD).

The multifunctional cable testing and diagnostic system PHG 80 TD/PD manufactured by BAUR (Austria) is designed for:

  • Testing of 6-35 kV cables with cross-linked polyethylene insulation with alternating voltage with a frequency of 0.1 Hz (VLF);
  • Testing of power cables with impregnated paper insulation 6-10 kV;
  • Testing the sheath of cables with XLPE insulation;
  • Diagnostics of cables by measuring the dielectric loss tangent (Tan D / TD)
  • Diagnostics of cables by measuring and localizing partial discharges (PD / PD)

PHG TD/PD is a comprehensive system that allows testing at 0.1 Hz / DC and comprehensive diagnostics of the condition of cables and their service life. The combination of two methods: measuring the dielectric loss tangent (dielectric loss coefficient) and measuring partial discharges with their localization - ideally complement each other and allow, on the one hand, to detect complex defects and determine the general condition of the cable line, and on the other hand, to localize the location of the defect in insulation and cable fittings.

Using the MWT (Full Monitored Withstand Test) mode allows you to reduce cable testing time by simultaneously measuring loss tangent and/or partial discharges, thereby reducing the time stress on the cable with increased voltage. Also, comprehensive tests significantly reduce the time for testing and diagnosing a cable line when compared with individual tests using three methods.
